American Museum of Natural History, a fascinating institution
The expansive American Museum of Natural History situated in New York City’s Upper West Side is amongst the most massive and famed museums on the globe. Situated amongst beautifully landscaped areas of greenery just across from Central Park, the extensive museum consists of 25 interlinked buildings which host no less than 46 permanent exhibition galleries, a well known library and numerous research laboratories. The museum’s vast collection numbers in excess of 32 million items, meaning that merely a small proportion may be displayed at any one time. The establishment sponsors more than 100 field exhibitions annually and boasts a scientific staff of over 200.
The museum’s vast array of exhibits includes such diverse items as dioramas of North American, Asian and African mammals, a painted and carved war canoe originating from the Pacific Northwest, an actual size model of a large blue whale, the Star of India, the world’s biggest star sapphire, and an enormous section of the famed Cape York meteorite. The museum is also renowned for its anthropological compilations, with major sections including Pacific People, Asian People, American Indian Collections, Man In Africa and items from Central America and Mexico.
The Arthur Ross Hall of Meteorites features an assortment of the most significant and best known discoveries on the globe, such as a portion of the Cape York meteorite known as Ahnighito; this 34 ton exhibit requires special foundation supports to bear its weight.
The amazing Akeley Hall of African Mammals is considered to be amongst the most magnificent exhibits of its kind on the globe. Here you will see amazing replicas of some of the world’s most attractive wildlife specimens.
Meanwhile the Bernard and Anne Spitzer Hall of Human Origins commands attention for its meticulous documentation of the evolution of the human species across the millennia. Not to be missed is the Harry Frank Guggenheim Hall of Gems and Minerals, an amazing display of out of the ordinary geological items. Various precious stones are to be seen here.

Are fairy tales public domain?
I’ve seen quite a few alternate takes on popular fairy tales (like American Mcgee’s Alice, a take on Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and there are plenty others referencing to little red riding hood, beauty and the beast, ect.) Do the people that put out these alternate takes on classic tales have to pay a royalty to anyone for selling their product? Are people free to take a tale out of Grimm’s fairy tales (or another old fairy tale collection) and put their own spin on it and sell it as a movie/video game/book/short story?
