We hope that this will bring closure to everyone who have lost loved ones in the 9/11 attacks, and wish that our troops will be safe and come home when the situation is fully under control. However, in the cyber world, the war on Osama Bin Laden is just starting. Many new viruses are out on the internet, no one knows for sure how many.
Osama Bin Laden is living on in forms of viruses, malware, and “tricks” in websites such as Facebook. Now you may ask “how does this work?” Simple, people are creating fake applications promising you to view photos of Osama Bin Laden dead, or “funny jokes” about the circumstances. Once you click on these types of malicious applications you then will be redirected to a different website that will try to install a virus. “We already had a couple people this week who brought their computers in for virus removal claiming that they got it from Facebook” says Andre Leite Alves who is the owner of Aware Bear Computers in Pittsford, NY.
In order not to catch this virus on your computer, Aware Bear Computers in Pittsford NY urges you not to click on unknown websites, links, or applications that contain information about Osama Bin Laden that does not seem official. “This happens all the time and people need to use common sense. The CIA has not released any photos yet of the operation, so it is very unlikely that anyone on the internet has any photos of Osama Bin Laden dead, and even if they did, the Government would shut them down.” mentions Andre Alves. If you want to see the pictures wait until the government releases them, and they will all over CNN and other news media’s.
If you were one of the unfortunate people who have contracted a virus already from fake Facebook applications, over email or any other form we ask you to find professional help. This is not a laughing matter and cyber scams are becoming more common and more dangerous. “You see, they go after people who are searching for the ‘hottest topic’ out there, since it’s all a game of numbers. Right now it just happens to be the death of Osama Bin Laden. Be careful this time and any other time an important topic like this emerges, because viruses are real, and they can even steal your identity including bank accounts, credit cards and other personal sensitive information.
